Meet February’s Bank Workers of the Month

The ‘Bank Worker of the Month’ award recognises NHS Professionals’ Flexible Workers who provide excellent quality of care to patients, achieve high standards across our core values and meet the 6Cs – care, compassion, competence, communication, courage and commitment. There is an award for three categories; Care Support Worker or Healthcare Assistant, Specialist Nurse and Registered Nurse. Every month each of the winners receives an iPad Mini as a thank you for all their hard work. In order to win this award the workers must fulfil the following criteria:

• Achieve ‘5 – Excellent’ on all five of the sections of the ‘Performance Evaluation System’, which is completed by the Ward Manager at the end of each shift.
• Cancelled no shifts for that month.
• Filled the highest number of shifts in the month for which they are being considered for.

We are pleased to announce that February’s winners were:

Andrew Jackson, Specialist Nurse, Central Manchester University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Andrew Jackson

“I’m a staff nurse on a short stay surgical unit at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. I care for children and their families both pre and post-surgery. Pre-op, I complete the admission process, explaining what will happen and who they will see. Post-op, I administer medications, obtain observations and co-ordinate with other members of the team to provide a safe and comfortable recovery. I also take an active role in training student nurses who work on the ward.

“I was a little surprised when I received the email informing me that I was Bank Worker of the Month. I didn’t know much about it beforehand. It’s wonderful to receive official recognition for all of my efforts. I love being a nurse, it is easily the best job I have had. Every day you work hard, striving to provide your patients with whatever they need to ensure the best possible patient experience. We regularly receive positive feedback from patient’s families but this award is a great way for NHS Professionals to show its appreciation for our efforts.”

Lorraine Campbell, Registered Nurse, Croydon Health Services NHS Trust
“I was absolutely thrilled to receive this award. I have been with NHS Professionals for so long and have always been told that I’m a good worker, but to actually be recognised by a ward is quite an achievement.

“Looking back, I can remember the shift where they decided that I should be Bank Worker of the Month. I remember them talking about me and saying how well I had been working. Every day I give it everything I’ve got – it’s all about going that extra mile to provide the best care possible.”

Cheryl Flynn, Care Support Worker, Northern Devon Health Care Trust

Cheryl Flynn
Congratulations to all our February winners and thank you to all of our workers for ensuring that patients receive the best care possible and for being great ambassadors for NHS Professionals.
