Staff at Medway Maritime Hospital received more patient nominations than any other NHS hospital in the UK in 2014 under the WOW! Awards initiative. Staff received an incredible 904 nominations from patients and visitors, nearly 600 more than the hospital in second place!
The WOW! Awards recognise and reward good service and best practice by teams and individuals across a range of sectors.
The scheme relies entirely on customer nominations. At Medway Maritime Hospital, this means any patient or visitor can nominate either an individual or team when they experience or see exceptional care.
Nominations are made using a form that is available online or from the wards, registration desks or help desks throughout the hospital.
All nominations are judged by an independent panel of experts on a monthly basis. Those people, who in the opinion of the judges, have provided excellent service are awarded a personalised certificate and the opportunity to enter the national awards which take place in London.
Dr Phillip Barnes, Acting Chief Executive for Medway NHS FT commented:
“I am absolutely delighted and extremely proud that the hard work and dedication of our staff have been recognised in this way. It is fantastic that so many of our patients and visitors have been impressed enough by the care we provide to take the time to make a nomination. Providing excellent patient care is our highest priority, we recognise there is much more to do but this is a very positive sign that we are moving in the right direction.”
