The ‘Bank Worker of the Month’ award recognises NHS Professionals’ Flexible Workers who provide excellent quality of care to patients, achieve high standards across our core values and meet the 6Cs – care, compassion, competence, communication, courage and commitment. There is an award for three categories; Care Support Worker or Healthcare Assistant, Specialist Nurse and Registered Nurse. Every month each of the winners receives an iPad Mini as a thank you for all their hard work. In order to win this award the workers must fulfil the following criteria:

• Achieve ‘5 – Excellent’ on all five of the sections of the ‘Performance Evaluation System’, which is completed by the Ward Manager at the end of each shift.
• Cancelled no shifts for that month.
• Filled the highest number of shifts in the month for which they are being considered for.

We are delighted to announce that one of August’s winners is Harrison Lim a Registered Nurse at Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. We spoke to Harrison to find out more about him and his working life.

How do you feel about winning this award?
I am greatly humbled and honoured to receive this award. The quality of work being appreciated and recognised is incredible.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I have been a part of NHS Professionals for more than six years now. I chose to become a flexible worker because when I don’t feel like working I am free to spend time doing things, like playing tennis with my friends, which makes me feel like I am self-employed.

What do you do in your day to day role?
I have worked in different fields of nursing for 22 years and am registered under the Philippine Nurses Association, the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties and the NMC. I believe that knowledge, skills and attitude are the most essential qualities when carrying out a specific assignment, while also following the NMC guidelines and hospital procedures and protocols.

What is the best thing about working as a bank nurse for NHS Professionals?
The best thing about working as a bank nurse for NHS Professionals is the flexibility and working in areas that I enjoy the most.

Congratulations to Harrison and all the other August winners, and thank you to all of our workers for ensuring that patients receive the best care possible, and for being great ambassadors for NHS Professionals.
