Karen Shakespeare wins Bank Worker of the Month for July

Karen Shakespeare

Karen, Specialist Nurse at The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, was one of July’s Bank Worker Of The Month winners. We met Karen following the award to congratulate her and find out more about his day to day role and experiences working for NHS Professionals.

1)How did you get into your current area of work?

I have worked for Pennine Hospital most of my working life in one capacity or another. HCA, Phlebotomist, councillor in the psychology department and then a nurse in A&E

2)What does your typical day at work consist of?

I start at 7:30 when possible and have to handle handovers and general work in A&E

3)What do you love most about your job?

The Variety of my role as well as the knowledge and support of my colleagues.

4)What’s your proudest moment achievement to date?

Obtaining my original position on A&E. I am proud to work for the trust and the department alongside my colleagues.

5) What is the most challenging part of your role?

Everyday there are challenges and stress.

6)What’s the best thing about working for NHSP?

The ability to choose my shifts and the support of the staff at the end of the phone.

7) What do you usually do on your days off?

I have two energetic dogs that keep me busy. I love gardening and spending time with my husband who is my best friend.

Shelley Biles wins Bank Worker of the Month for June

Shelley, Admin and Clerical Worker at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust, was one of June’s Bank Worker Of The Month winners. We met Shelley following the award to congratulate her and find out more about his day to day role and experiences working for NHS Professionals.

1)How did you get into your current area of work?

I have been in this role for 6 years now. I formerly worked as a substantive staff member but I then left the trust and came back as a Bank worker.

2)What does your typical day at work consist of?

A&E – it is extremely busy!

3)What do you love most about your job?

How supportive my team is and the team spirit they have.

4)How would your colleagues describe you?

Hardworking, supportive and reliable

5)What’s your proudest moment achievement to date?

6) What is the most challenging part of your role?

Dealing with demanding people everyday

7)What’s the best thing about working for NHSP?

Everyone gets along really well and are all really supportive of one another. Everyone respects each other and work together as a team

8) What do you usually do on your days off?

I sleep, go shopping and spend time with my friends and family.

Carlito Caluya wins Bank Worker of the Month for May

Carlito, Care Support Worker at Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, was one of May’s Bank Worker Of The Month winners. We met Carlito following the award to congratulate him and find out more about his day to day role and experiences working for NHS Professionals.

1)How did you get into your current area of work?

I transferred to Redstone House from another location in the Trust.

2)What does your typical day at work consist of?

There is definitely no typical day, it varies from shift to shift.

3)What do you love most about your job?

Looking after out clients.

4)How would your colleagues describe you?

Very helpful, a great team member.

5)What’s your proudest moment achievement to date?

I looked after a client who was in hospital for 2 months, he trusted me and would only respond to me.

 

6)What’s the best thing about working for NHSP?

Flexibility and pay. It has enabled me to return to working at Redstone House where I worked for 32 years before retiring.

7) What do you usually do on your days off?

I like gardening.

Nayara De Sousa Ferreira wins Bank Worker of the Month for April

Nayara, Specialist Nurse at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, was one of April’s Bank Worker Of The Month winners. We met Nayara following the award to congratulate her and find out more about her day to day role and experiences working for NHS Professionals.

1)How did you get into your current area of work?

I always wanted to work in healthcare and graduated in Spain, then I was offered the chance to come and work in the UK for the NHS, and it was a good opportunity.

2)What does your typical day at work consist of?

I normally either work in A&E or AMU so it’s a very fast paced environment, no two days are the same, the only thing that remains consistent is medicating patients.

3)What do you love most about your job?

After treating patients, when they get better you know you have contributed to helping them. Sometimes patients come back in to personally thank you for helping them, it’s very rewarding.

4)How would your colleagues describe you in three words?

Flexible, hardworking and reliable

5)What’s your proudest moment achievement to date?

We had a lady who had an ulcer on her leg and they were talking about having to amputate, but we worked hard to treat it and it no longer required amputation.

6)What’s the most challenging part of your role?

Juggling what needs to be done and what the patients need/want, we always have a very demanding patient or patients family,  we need to make sure everyone feels well looked after.

7)What’s the best thing about working for NHSP?

Flexibility and there is always a good choice of shifts.

 

8) What do you usually do on your days off?

I like being outside, I always go on walks, or sunbathing when its sunny like today!

Thomas McGinty, Community nurse at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, was one of January’s Bank Worker Of The Month winners. We met Thomas following his award to congratulate him and find out more about his day to day role and experiences working for NHS Professionals.

1) How did you get into your current area of work?

Recruitment drive for Salford District nursing service

2)What does your typical day at work consist of?

Working as a community nurse for the Broughton District nursing team

3)What do you love most about your job?

The variety of patient care and the fantastic District nursing team in Salford Royal

4)How would your colleagues describe you in three words?

Reliable, professional and competent

5)What’s been your proudest achievement at work to date?

Completing specialist practitioner in the community and my V300 non-medical prescribing course

6)What’s the most challenging part of your role?

Provide end of life care

7)What’s the best thing about working for NHSP?

Flexibility, training, weekly pay, holiday pay, learning and development, experience and variety

8)What do you usually do on your days off?

Learn the guitar, go walking, go to the cinema and I love going on mini breaks too!
